What to Expect

Welcome to our website and thanks for taking time to find out more information about us.  We are a diverse community of believers from all ages and backgrounds who seek to express the ancient truths of Christianity in a culturally relevant way through creative teaching, music, art, and media.

Church of the Outer Banks began meeting in a home with only five people in June 2005. We quickly outgrew the home meeting space and began to meet at the YMCA in Nags Head on October 2nd 2005.  Today, several hundred people call Church OBX their home.  People who attend our church come from many backgrounds.  Wherever you are on your journey, we invite you to come and explore the Christian faith with us.

When are your services?

Our Sunday service begins at 10:00 am.  Each service features contemporary worship, relevant messages, and great programs for children.

How do I get to Church OBX?

Church OBX meets every Sunday at 10 am at the YMCA in Nags Head, NC. The Church OBX Entrance is located in the front of the YMCA. Just follow the signs.

What can I expect on my first visit?

From the moment you arrive you'll be made to feel at home. Our greeters will be ready to give directions or answer any questions you may have. If you have children, you'll want to take advantage of our safe and secure children's services designed just for them. Once you make it into the gym, sit back, relax, and enjoy the service with a cup of coffee!

What is a typical service like?

Our morning worship times are casual "come as you are" worship gatherings where you can expect to meet friendly people, enjoy good music, and hear relevant messages each week. Each Sunday morning we begin with a time to connect with others over coffee and finger foods. The music offers a diversity of styles to prepare your heart for what God has in store for you. Then, Pastor Winfield communicates the message in a way that speaks to the heart in today's language.

Why don't you pass an offering plate?

Church OBX does take a weekly offering but we don't pass a plate. In fact, our church is supported by the generous offerings of our members. There are offering baskets in the back of the worship center where you can anonymously place your offerings each week. We do it this way because we don't want our visitors to feel pressured or uncomfortable. And we believe giving should be from your heart and is between you and God.
